Doug Picatti and KL Wombacher Discuss Possible New Downtown Complex - 2010-03-03
Dozens of downtown merchants, property owners, employees, and residents came to the monthly Downtown Business Roundtable Breakfast last week to hear two downtown community leaders talk about the possible use of part of the Boise-Cascade development site as a multi-use athletic facility.
Doug Picatti, who chairs the Committee for Downtown Yakima’s (CDY’s) break-out committee on downtown capital improvements said that several local community institutions and sports clubs are now reviewing their future athletic facility plans, and that a collaborative effort between such groups might be able to address multiple needs at an more economical cost than developing such facilities independently. Also, Yakima Bears General Manager K.L. Wombacher said that the Bears would definitely be interested in being a part of any such coalition of facility users. He said that his organization recently commissioned a future facility planning report and that it recommended the development of just such a multi-function athletic facility. Mr. Wombacher also emphasized that his focus and his goal is to develop a plan that can be implemented with no new taxes.
