April Showers... - 2009-04-15

…Bring May flowers. I’m pretending that I didn’t see the snow yesterday. Nor, did I see the rain. I am just repeating what will have to be my mantra for April, “April showers bring May flowers.”

I’m sure you’ve seen the flowers start to pop up downtown. Some of the flower pots have started receiving winter pansies, and the rest of the pots have been prepped for when the warm weather hits!

So, as I’m sitting here, I’m am making my list of Rainy Day Activities, so that you can share in the fun while we are waiting for May to arrive.

1.)    Coffee shops – Go to one many of the coffee shops downtown offering free wireless, you can take your laptop down and surf the net. Also, it’s always good for people watching, or just curling up with a good book!

2.)    Wine Tasting – Yakima’s wine shops and wineries provide excellent in-door activities downtown!

3.)    Shopping – Even if spring hasn’t sprung, go shopping downtown! Antiques, clothes, bath products, comics or even trinkets for your home can spruce up your rainy day!

4.)    Baseball – Ok, you might think this is a stretch. I don’t mean playing baseball, but watching baseball puts a spring in my step faster than most things. With all of the restaurants and bars downtown, you are certain to find someplace with your favorite team playing.

5.)    Get Out and Walk – Yes! You read it right! Put on your rain boots and rain jacket and go discover your inner child downtown! Fill your belly with sweet treats, take a walk around Track 29, anything that brings back your child-like smile! The more you enjoy yourself downtown, the more others will want to join you!
